Tuesday Tutorial {i collect jars...}

i collect glass jars.
from sauce, olives, beans, tapenade, salsa, artichokes on the list goes.

once the food is gone i can't throw them away.
a practically resourceful addiction i guess.
one of my favorites is a tiny little glass jar from Trader Joe's for capers it's sides are an octagon, so pretty.

for a long time these empty jars would sit upon my shelf and once in a while i would put a bouquet of fresh flowers picked from my garden.
and slowly i began to use them more and more for many different things...

shells

punch

crafts, clothes pins, straws

i also have a huge jar in my bathroom filled with pretty bars of soap.
and the surfer guy likes to drink water and iced green tea out of my saved glass jars.

  • how to save your glass jar

eat or use the contents
soak in hot soapy water for a few hours or overnight

peel off the label
scrub the sticky off with steel wool or a steel scrubber like this
these actually start out looking like this...
i guess mine has been around the block a few times :)

and presto you now have an empty glass :)

what will you fill it with?

xoxo,

  1. Great ideas. I keep various craft odds and ends in mine and I also reuse them to store leftovers in the fridge. It's much better for the environment than purchasing the cheap plastic glad containers. Plus, your leftovers looks so delicious in the glass jars!

  8. I love collecting mason jars! I love putting flowers, pens and coins in them, but I love the way you've displayed everyday house hold and craft items in them. I will definitely have to follow this tutorial to add some more goodies to my collection!

  10. Funny, I was just washing aluminum cans of the canned vegetable and soup kind and trying to explain to my husband that we do need more to store his art stuff in. They are also all over the house. I love the industrial look of the aluminum and they are perfect for wrapping fabric around and making cute. Just like the jars just only cans!

  11. so funny! i collect jars too... and stick 'em under the sink. sometimes the husband makes fun of me for it.

husband emptying a jar: Do you want this?
    me: YES!
husband: what are you going to use it for?
    me: Uhhhh I'll find something...

    ;)

  12. I love the idea of jars, but never really collect them. I do have a favorite jam jar I use for making salad dressing, so maybe that counts! Hope all is well Krystina and that we can get together soon.

  14. I really should start keeping these jars, too, once they're empty of food. I always recycle them. So if/when I start keeping empty glass jars, I would store sewing supplies in them. :)
