what's in the bag...
i have been asked what bag i use for my nikon D7000 and all my carry alongs.
i don't like having to carry multiple bags everywhere. one should do the job.
for six months i have been using this kelly moore camera bag for my camera, diapers, etc -my carry all.
so, what does it hold you ask?

friends
i write you this post tired from a late night chatting with friends, our fuel: wine, food, a good book. the reasons we come together, and the blessing of 1 or 2 lingering after and sharing deeply and growing our relationships was and is immeasurable. i cannot know how these times now will build for our friendships later.
ironically the book we read The Help takes place in 1960's Jackson, Mississippi focused on the help and their relationships; was not about friendship - or was it? i clung to Minny and Aibileen's amazing friendship of being so close. to be able to go to the other's house without a "playdate" and sit and have tea. to protect each other beyond their own self, to care so deeply about the other impacted me greatly. maybe these are different times, walking over to a friend's house just to chat unannounced might be considered rude, what if she's busy? what if she's not ready for me? what if, what if... community used to be people sharing the lawn mower out of shear necessity, watching each other's children, maybe share a meal together. now our world is so protected: protected sex, protected peoples rights, protected children in many ways including strict movie ratings, protected health laws - no smoking in public places, etc, all of which are very good and i feel fortunate to live in such times - but we're so dang protected we're getting isolated. plugged into our computer, tv, iPad, laptop, video game, phone... where and when is there time for human beings to enter into our lives... in person? in the same room? IN REAL LIFE? and not hi everything is fine *fake smile*. no. real stuff and it doesn't have to be bad either. i can honestly say that i, my mother, and my grandmother, have never had a friend like Aibileen or Minny. maybe it's just us. i moved 25 times by the time i was 25, so now that i have been in once place for 10 years, now what? is it just me? busy with my babies, school, household?
do i need to stomp into someone's kitchen make coffee sit down and say (like Aibileen) "we gone be friends."? no, i know that friendships take building, time, nurturing. i have great, wonderful friends and i think if they lived closer or i just got over the "what if's" then maybe i would have this beautiful thing that Minny and Aibileen have.
the book was amazing. the writer is ridiculously talented, you feel like you're there, and i had a hard time not picking up the dialect the help spoke in -her writing was that good. i hope the movie does it justice. looking forward to it.

Photography Friday: laundry quandry
we had some old primitive thing washing our clothes.
the beast would choose whether or not it felt like spinning.
i would get sopping wet piles of laundry that i had to start the spin by hand.
what? is this 1960?
with the water and electric bill we decided to go high efficiency.
little did i know we ordered a time machine
complete with a flux capacitor...
i kid, i kid ;P
ok so the above shot is me removing the back of the machine
to fix the dent in this
it was scraping as it spun.
the delivery guy doesn't know how to install (air freight)
but he brought it inside for me because i asked him to.
the metal dent was easy to pop out and easy to fix.
i hooked up the water, drain, put into place (so heavy) and then i had to level the thing.
i tried and tried
i ended up bending the tool that came with it for leveling.
glad you didn't see the positions i contorted myself into trying.
it wasn't budging, so i called Dan Dan the handyman.
he said the locknut was stuck so it was a toughie.
he got it after several trips to his truck tool box,
while i sat and ate basil and tomatoes for lunch.
smart boy,
he found a huge, fun box when he woke from his nap.

my laundry finally spins like it's supposed to.
gotta love clean laundry,
i got it all done in 3 hours.
piles and piles gone.
maybe it is a time machine.

why little i ?
way back in the day when i started blogging, ahem, a few months ago, i decided to write i instead of I
why?
this i know you are longing to know, it's the burning question that keeps you up at night.
it's the thing the perplexes and puzzles your brain to the point of exhaustion... no? ok, well anyway...
i want you to know why.
grammatically speaking it is incorrect, yes i know.
however, i love lower case everything in every way...
and i want to know why when i write you and i, it's supposed to be you and I?
you are lower case and I and upper? seems a bit egotistical if you ask me.
though here i am at the top of my blog in front of my craft room daydreaming with my favorite boots on -seems selfish enough without having to capitalize {ME} all over my bloggy.
i am not more important than YOU so therefore you and i are equally important and special and wonderfully made :)

going somewhere? pack your craft for travel {part 1}
remember my birdcage ribbon dispenser?
well i couldn't bring that on my retreat,
so i made a portable dispenser to-go!
i always have this handy dandy rolling cart with drawers
so, i put my ribbon in there.
i made sure the dowels were long enough to stand on the sides,
yet short enough to pack easily inside going longways.
open the drawer when you arrive at your craft night or weekend
plop the dowels on the sides and add some packaging tape to hold in place along the sides
and you're all set.
this is how i used my ribbon on my retreat.
there are 28 rolls there!
the cart is from target a billion years ago but i'm sure they have something like it.
it measures about 13" wide X 18" deep X 36' tall
the dowels are 3/4 inch thick and about 16 inches long.

Scrapbook Retreat 2011
i had a wonderful time with friends, sharing and laughing together.
i haven't laughed that hard in a very long time.
they made fun of my little snort at the end of my laugh,
but they did it out of love :)
we see deer every year.
we went on gorgeous walks.
we had delectable treats like coconut cake, a grilled cheese bar, and brownies.
i made cookie dough truffles from the recipe girl -thanks Molly for the tip!
we watched several movies full of tears and laughter.
who could forget this scene from when harry met sally?
my space:
3 nights, 4 days was a great break for this mama - the only emergency room trip the surfer guy had to make was to remove the ear piece of his phone headset out of Brockman's nose! i was sad that i wasn't there to hold him, but he didn't cry - he was very brave the ER doc said.

looking forward to...
guess where i am going...
i will be going somewhere this weekend where yoga pants are a requirement,
tho there will be no yoga.
i will give you another hint; a place where 8 women bring armfulls ofcrap, ahem crafts.
we will be punching, cutting, and slicing.

here's my pinterest scrapbook inspiration board
i printed out and am bringing with me: (+ a stack of scrap mags!)
i just never know what i'm going to need
so i have packed enough supplies to create 100 albums (oh dear)
but i will only be doing the second half of '07. i hope to finish it. 4 days should be enough.
i have been scrapbooking now for almost 12 years! since my oldest was six months old :)
this is my 7th scrapbooking trip. i guess you can say i love it. hmm, let me see paper? yep, love it. photography? yep, that too. and design... well, there you go i guess it adds up to a scrappy love affair. luckily i have accomplices who are addicted as i am
and we have inadvertently created quite lovely friendships. sigh.
i will have lots of photos from my trip to share with you next week!
